Buying a new guitar is a very exciting process but you need to know what you are doing if you don’t want to end up with a piece of junk.

You will spend a lot of time practicing with it so you might as well get a guitar that is pleasant to the ear. The last thing you want to do is to struggle to get a pleasant sound out of the instrument. That kind of frustration will make you loose your passion and make you give up and you don’t want that I presume.

If you can purchase a good guitar it will have better resale value which will help big time once you want to upgrading to a better instrument.

Now what happens if you don’t have any money and believe me I’ve been there and know all about it. Well I suggest you find someone with a guitar that they’re not using and ask them if you can use it for a while so that you can practice while you save for your own axe.

The third camp you could find yourself in is that you might already own a guitar but it’s not that great. What do you do? Your first port of call would be to find a guitartech and ask him to set it up properly and put a new set of strings on it. It’s amazing what a proper setup and some new strings can do to a guitar! The pro’s even change their strings after a few weeks!
