If you have the cycle of twelve notes that go up and down the fretboard memorized, then you are much more likely to take that next step to an intermediate guitarist. Since the order is similar to the alphabet, it’s natural for anyone to learn.
It is a great idea for any first time student to choose a few chords to learn first. What’s great about this is that you only need to learn two or three and you will already have what it takes to play a barrage of hit songs. A popular choice of chords for beginners are G, C and D. They’re simple to learn and sound great.
Now it’s time for the really fun part. Pick a favorite song of yours that is made up of the three or so chords which you’ve chosen to learn. Simply play that song over as many times as your fingers will let you. Not only will you be having a blast, but you’ll be practicing and you won’t even know it. It’s experiences like this that make learning guitar so special.

Although you may not be as amazing as your rock star idols right off the bat, you’ll definitely have enough to impress your friends.
